How many nights will a power station run your CPAP?

Pick your machine, pressure and humidifier setting. The draw comes from ResMed's own battery tables, and the result is in eight-hour nights.

A power station is not a medical backup system, and this is a planning estimate, not medical advice. The FDA advises asking your device maker or supplier whether your CPAP can run on battery power and how, and telling your electric company and fire department that you use a powered medical device. If you depend on a device to stay alive, the FDA says to seek emergency services. What to check first.

ResMed's figures: AirSense 10 at 12 V DC

Current draw at 12 V DC through ResMed's DC-to-DC converter, from the Air10 series converter table in ResMed's battery guide (198103/7, 2018-08). Watts = amps × 12. The guide predates the AirSense 11 and doesn't list it.

AirSense 10 draw in watts by pressure (cmH2O)

How the nights are worked out

Nights = station capacity × share you can use × efficiency ÷ (CPAP watts + station idle watts) ÷ hours of sleep. Running the CPAP from the station's 12 V DC outlet with the maker's DC cable usually wastes less than going through the station's AC inverter and the CPAP's power brick, but makers rarely publish DC-port efficiency, so the 85% default is an example. ResMed's AirSense 11 figures (56.1 W typical, 73.2 W peak) are from its user guide and describe the whole system, including humidification; Philips' 80 W for the DreamStation 2 is the power supply it requires for humidification, an upper bound rather than a measured draw. Philips' instructions also say its attached battery pack doesn't support humidification. Sources are on Methods and sources.
